here's some Ghostbusters 2 love for ya.  Vigo the Carpathian, the main villian/ghost of the 2nd movie.

Total Protonic Reversal

Man, I took way too long on this thing. But I had to make sure it looked good! The Ghostbusters deserve it. Played around with this piece a little, tried doing kind of a faux zip-a-tone thing with the shading. Tried really hard to get all of their likenesses down. I meant to have a cigarette hanging off of Ray's lip (it's even in the rough I did) but when I got to the final drawing I totally forgot about it. Anyway, hope you dig it!

Stantz & Slimer

here's my entry for this week! I chose Ray Stantz, as portrayed by Dan Aykroyd. Hope I captured his likeness. And I had to do a piece with Slimer, since he's so closely identified with the franchise! Originally, I had several ghosts from the films looming in the background, but it was looking too cluttered, so I just kept it as Ray & Slimer.

Who you gonna call?

I'm going to be trying out different things for this here sketchblog, the first of which is doing quick, looser sketches, keeping as much of the initial shapes and movement as I can.

It's also a good opportunity to experiment with some different Photoshop brushes and textures.

finally got this done... I copied the background and bartender from a comic I did last year, because that's how the eff I roll! you'll be happy to know that the story this came from (The World As You Know It: Permanent Residents) was about a hotel that's haunted by lots of ghosts... so this pic is actually in continuity! anyways, I knew I wanted to draw Ernie's character shouting that line from the movie, because I think it's hilarious... I spent the last week thinking of funny situations for him to say it (at church, on the bus, at an elementary school career day, etc) but this one was within my immediate reach, and it was getting late...

I Ain't Afraid of No Ghost

I was actually watching both movies on Hulu when drawing this piece. I challenged myself to play with shades and highlights and have thicker lines. I'm really satisfied with the results and hopefully I can whip a better illustration next time.

Ghostbusters-Venkman

I did this one traditionally in front of my students. I was taping off the sections near the jagged bits so I could cut them with x-acto to create a clean edge. However, once I saw how the tape looked, it had that collage-vibe to it, which I couldn't deny! The colors were done with some fluid acrylics. You'll notice that I like to change things up a lot depending on what I'm working on.

I've recently bought a small Canson Make Your Own Manga Book; it's pretty neat. It's a bit more disposable than a nice moleskin and a notch above a regular sketchbook. I'll probably be doing most of my sketches in that for this blog.
